Free Roman Polanski

It’s time to put the entire Roman Polanski mess behind us.  Mr. Polanski has been made to suffer long enough.  We should let him come home at long last.

If you aren’t familiar with the case, it all happened back in 1977.  Roman Polanski invited a 13-year old girl named Samantha to a friend’s house to photograph her.  He gave her champagne.  He drugged her with a Quaalude.  While Samantha screamed “No!” and begged him to stop, Mr. Polanski performed oral, vaginal, and anal sex acts on her (click here for all the lovely details).

After his arrest, Mr. Polanski agreed to plead guilty to one count of unlawful sex with a minor in exchange for the state dropping the other five counts.  Right before sentencing, Mr. Polanski heard that he would be given jail time instead of probation, so he fled to Paris where he has lived for thirty years.

I can only imagine what a hell Mr. Polanski has been living for the last three decades.  Sure, he’s been able to continue making high-budget Hollywood movies, but he hasn’t been allowed to come to the United States to collect Oscars.  Sure, he lives in a lavish apartment in France, but it’s in that hell hole called Paris.  We need to stop his suffering once and for all.

The hell hole that is Paris.
It’s time to change the law to make them fairer to people like Mr. Polanski.  Under this law, anyone who drugs and rapes a child and doesn’t like his sentence will be flown to France.  Then, after a few decades living in opulence, the molestation charges will be dropped, and the rapist can come back to our country, where Hollywood will shower him with accolades and throw parties in his honor.

How does that work for everyone?
